Description:

Counselors are responsible for supervising children while conducting educational, cultural and recreational activities for children from grades K-6.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    •    Take primary responsibility for the health, well-being and happiness of participants
    •    Learn the likes and dislikes of each participant
    •    Recognize and respond to opportunities for group problem solving
    •    Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success while at the YMCA
    •    Encourage respect for personal property, YMCA equipment and facilities
    •    Set a good example for participants in all areas, including cleanliness, punctuality, clean-up chores, rules and sportsmanship
    •    Guide participants in participating successfully in all aspects of activities
    •    Supervise, assist instructors and actively participate in all aspects of the participants’ day
    •    Observe participants behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
    •    Prepare for and actively participate in pre-summer training and weekly meetings
    •    Meet/communicate regularly with Director regarding concerns, updates and challenges
    •    Submit all required paperwork on time

Swim Lesson Instructor

Description:

General Function: Ensure that all programs are started and finished as scheduled. Performs program to best of ability to achieve obtainable goals set by the Selma-Dallas County YMCA. Provides a sense of control during scheduled programs.  This will increase the safety of the pool for all participants, members, and their guests.  The Swim Instructor will assist during emergency care in the event of an accident. Time will be spent preparing and organizing scheduled programs.  Time will be spent doing routine maintenance duties as assigned by the management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Membership service is everyone’s job! It is an attitude not a department.

  • Arrive 15 min. early to prepare for class and be available to parents.

  • Ensure that all programs are started and finished as scheduled.

  • Teach all programs by the YMCA of the USA guidelines.

  • Prevention of accidents both in the water and on the deck.

  • Provide rescue and emergency assistance in the event of an accident.

  • Maintain a sense of control and safety during scheduled programs.

  • Secure and maintain all equipment in good operating order including getting it out and storing it away properly.

  • Make sure that pool area being used for lessons is securely roped off to ensure safety and order of participants and members.

  • Take daily attendance and provide feedback to all participants and parents.

  • Fill out appropriate paperwork and make sure progress reports are complete by the 6thclass.

  • Promote continuing progression within the YMCA swim lesson program.

  • Enforce pool rules and justly establish disciplinary actions.

  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service training as set up by the aquatic director.

  • Provide maintenance duties when needed.  These duties include picking up litter on the deck, washing the pool deck nightly, surface skimming when needed, keeping the deck clear of all obstructions.

  • Wear all employee uniform requirements when on duty. 

  • Customer service.  Be friendly and able to answer general YMCA questions.

  • Work your scheduled times or find your own qualified substitute approved by supervisor.

  • Fill out accident reports for any accident no matter how minor.

  • Keep all appropriate certifications up to date and on file with the aquatics director.

  • Promote an environment that supports the YMCA’s mission and our four-core values- caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility

  • Maintains high standards for scheduled program and ensures success.

Know How: Must be 16 years of age or older; Current and valid, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer and a YMCA Lifeguard Certification recommended. Certification of YMCA Swim Lesson Certification or a W. S. I. is preferred. Position also requires excellent swimming skills plus a varied aquatic background. Ability to provide good public relations with children and adults.

Description:

Under the direction of the CEO, the Youth Sports Instructor will teach all levels of sports and character development in a positive atmosphere that will allow the participants to learn and grow.

Greets everyone by using names whenever possible; extends thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times.  The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Teach sports skills to kids from beginners to advanced

  2. Attend all staff meetings and training sessions

  3. Teach participants about healthy lifestyles and nutrition

  4. Act as a role model for YMCA Core Values

  5. Help create a climate that fosters YMCA goals and a fun, engaging atmosphere for all participants

  6. Proper care and storage of sports equipment

  7. Supervision of participants at all points of the day

  8. Generate new ideas to implement into the schedule

  9. Supervise and help train volunteers

Minimum Requirements:

  1. This position requires practical and technical knowledge of all levels of sports.

  2. This person must be motivated, energetic and able to communicate with participants and parents.

  3. CPR and First Aid certification is also required within 60 days of Hire.
