Dear YMCA Friends,

The YMCA is on the move planning for a very busy summer of “Family Fun” with all the great swimming and camping programs childhood memories are made of. All three of our locations will be in full operation: The new Walker-Johnson Family YMCA, the CC Brown Family YMCA and YMCA Camp Grist serving the community. There is, however, one thing wrong.

Some of the children and families in Selma and throughout Dallas County may think that the YMCA is not for them because they can’t afford the programs. That is why we are having our annual Strong Kids Campaign. We want to make sure that the YMCA is available for children who want to learn to swim, who want to learn how to play sports, who want to attempt the high ropes course at camp.

We also know that getting children and families active and exercising is critical as we face an obesity epidemic in our community. Our children risk being the first generation in US history that will not live longer than their parents. This is something we can do something about today, with the help of the Strong Kids Campaign.

The Strong Kids Campaign raises money to help the YMCA reach out with programs and opportunities to include all the children we can serve. At the YMCA, we know that everyone can pay something, however small, to be a part of programs and we want to afford all our members the dignity that comes with providing for their family. We need your help to cover the rest of the expenses of providing high quality programs.

The YMCA of Selma and Dallas County has a rich history of producing great leaders, great athletes and great citizens. We want to build on our strengths and launch the next generation with the best foundation possible.
