Character Development
The YMCA is challenging people, especially children and teens to accept and demonstrate positive values. The five core values of the YMCA of Selma-Dallas County are emphasized in all programs: Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Caring and Faith. Through our programs and the modeling of these values, the YMCA continues to meet the needs of our ever-changing community.
YMCA FACTS:
* The YMCA of Selma-Dallas County has served the community since 1858 and currently operates three facilities, the Claude C. Brown YMCA, Camp Grist and the Paul M. Grist YMCA.
* Construction is underway on a new 43,000 square foot, $5 million facility on Medical Center Parkway which is slated to open the first quarter of 2006.
* The new family center is expected to serve over 3,500 people annually through quality, wholesome programs for the entire family.
* The increased membership revenue will ensure the YMCA’s extensive outreach programs and the critical services offered at Camp Grist and the Brown YMCA.
* Everyone will be welcome at the new YMCA, and financial assistance is provided to ensure membership and programs are affordable for all.
Together, the nation's more than 2,500 YMCAs are the largest not-for-profit community service organizations in America, working to meet the health and social service needs of 18.9 million men, women and children in 10,000 communities in the United States. Ys are for people of all faiths, races, abilities, ages and incomes. No one is turned away for inability to pay. YMCAs' strength is in the people they bring together.
YMCAs stretch beyond the United States. YMCAs are at work in more than 120 countries around the world, serving more than 45 million people. About 230 U.S. YMCAs maintain relationships with Ys in other countries. So the YMCA really does build strong kids, strong families and strong communities -- worldwide.
